Adelaide United Stuns Brisbane Roar in a Thrilling Unite Round Clash

Adelaide United Fights Back Twice to Triumph Over Brisbane Roar
In a dramatic encounter at Allianz Stadium, Archie Goodwin’s first goal for Adelaide United sealed a thrilling 3-2 victory against Brisbane Roar in Unite Round. Carl Veart’s Reds showcased resilience, overcoming deficits twice to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Early Drama as Brisbane Strikes First
Brisbane Roar wasted no time in making their mark, with Keegan Jelacic unleashing a stunning curling shot from the edge of the area just five minutes in, leaving Adelaide goalkeeper James Delianov stranded. This early brilliance gave the visitors a deserved 1-0 lead.

Adelaide responded in the 30th minute when Stefan Mauk capitalized on a turnover caused by winger Austin Ayoubi. Mauk’s composed side-footed finish leveled the score, despite Brisbane’s initial dominance.

The tide seemed to favor Brisbane again before halftime when Dutch defender Bart Vriends fouled Thomas Waddingham in the box. Roar captain Jay O’Shea converted the penalty, restoring their lead at 2-1.

Adelaide’s Resilience Shines in the Second Half
Carl Veart’s halftime substitutions paid immediate dividends. Zac Clough found the equalizer just 35 seconds into the second half, with his deflected shot leaving Brisbane goalkeeper Macklin Freke helpless.

Adelaide’s relentless pressure culminated in the 62nd minute when Archie Goodwin marked his arrival with a clinical finish. A precise pass from Dylan Pierias set up Goodwin, who slotted home from close range to give the Reds their first lead of the night.

Brisbane pushed forward in search of an equalizer but squandered key opportunities. Substitute Florin Berenguer’s header missed the target in the 85th minute, and VAR overturned a late penalty appeal, ensuring Adelaide’s victory.
