Adelaide’s Comeback Victory
Adelaide United’s teenage sensation Luka Jovanovic delivered a stunning stoppage-time goal to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory over Macarthur Bulls at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Monday night. The win propelled Adelaide to second place in the Isuzu UTE A-League standings.
Macarthur Takes the Lead, Adelaide Hits Back
The match’s intensity surged in the 80th minute when Macarthur’s Valère Germain headed the home side into the lead. However, their advantage lasted just five minutes as Oliver Randazzo’s foul on Yaya Dukuly led to a penalty. Zach Clough calmly converted from the spot, leveling the score and setting the stage for a dramatic finish.
Jovanovic’s Redemption Arc
Adelaide’s head coach Carl Veart placed his trust in Luka Jovanovic, recalling the young striker to the squad after a disciplinary omission in Round 10. That faith was rewarded when Jovanovic volleyed home a spectacular left-footed effort in the 92nd minute, sealing all three points for the visitors.
Reds’ Relentless First-Half Pressure
Adelaide United dominated the opening exchanges, creating a flurry of chances. Ethan Alagich came close to adding a second goal in as many games, while Zach Clough struck the post in a chaotic scramble in Macarthur’s box. Goalkeeper Filip Kurto stood firm, making several crucial saves, including a spectacular tip-over from Jay Barnett’s long-range shot.
Clough appeared to have found the net in the 16th minute, but his effort was ruled offside. Dylan Pierias also tested Kurto with a fierce strike, only to see the keeper deny him yet again. Despite their dominance, Adelaide failed to break the deadlock before halftime.
Macarthur Fights Back
Macarthur grew into the game after surviving Adelaide’s early pressure. Young forward Bernardo, introduced by head coach Mile Sterjovski, almost gave the Bulls the lead, but his sharp turn and shot were superbly saved by James Delianov.
After 79 minutes of deadlock, Germain’s header finally gave the hosts the advantage, igniting the contest. However, Adelaide’s resilience shone through as they quickly responded from the penalty spot.
Jovanovic Steals the Spotlight
With seconds ticking away, Adelaide earned a free kick in a dangerous position. Jovanovic latched onto the delivery and unleashed a majestic volley into the bottom-right corner. The teenager’s heroics capped a sensational comeback and ensured Adelaide extended their scoring streak in the league.
