Torrential Rain Forces Postponement of Central Coast vs. Canberra United A-League Women’s Final

GOSFORD, Australia (PS) —
Severe weather has forced the postponement of the A-League Women’s elimination final between the Central Coast Mariners and Canberra United after torrential rain left the pitch at Central Coast Stadium waterlogged.
Originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon, the knockout match between the fourth-placed Mariners and fifth-seeded Canberra United has been pushed back 24 hours. The game is now slated to kick off at 6 p.m. AEST on Monday, pending a further pitch inspection earlier in the day.
In a statement, the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) confirmed the decision following extensive rainfall in Gosford over the past 24 hours, with up to 50 millimeters more rain expected.
“Following extensive rain in Gosford in the last 24 hours, and up to 50mm of rain still to fall today, the waterlogged pitch has been deemed unplayable,” the APL said.
“The match will be rescheduled to tomorrow night (Monday 28 April), kick off 6pm AEST, following a further pitch inspection in the morning.”
Elsewhere, third-seeded Adelaide United are set to host sixth-placed Western United at Coopers Stadium in the other elimination final on Sunday.
The highest-ranked winner from the two elimination finals will face second-placed Melbourne Victory in a two-legged semi-final. Meanwhile, the lower-ranked winner will take on undefeated premiers Melbourne City, who lifted the Premier’s Plate on Saturday night.
All eyes will now be on Monday’s early inspection in Gosford, as both Central Coast and Canberra prepare for a do-or-die battle to keep their championship hopes alive.
