Messi-led side becomes the 31st team to qualify for the 32-team tournament following their 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield victory

Inter Miami CF, captained by the legendary Lionel Messi, has officially secured their spot in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after an exceptional MLS campaign that saw them claim the 2024 Supporters’ Shield. This achievement confirms their place as the best-performing team throughout the MLS regular season, marking a pivotal moment for the club as they prepare to represent the United States as the host team in the global competition.

Record-Breaking Season
Inter Miami’s 2024 season was nothing short of extraordinary. With 22 wins, eight draws, and just four losses across 34 matches, the Herons dominated the league, earning 74 points – the most ever recorded by an MLS team in a single season. This remarkable consistency allowed them to secure the Supporters’ Shield with two games still left to play, highlighting their dominance on the pitch.

The crowning moment came during a fan celebration at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, following their final regular season match against New England Revolution. FIFA President Gianni Infantino addressed the jubilant crowd, officially announcing that Inter Miami would not only participate in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup but also host the tournament’s opening game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on June 15, 2025.

FIFA President’s Praise
“Miami is a city that breathes football, and Inter Miami’s incredible achievements this season have proven their quality on the world stage,” said Infantino. “It is my honor to confirm your participation as one of the best clubs globally and to announce that Miami will be the stage for the opening match of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. This will be a grand celebration of the beautiful game, bringing together the world’s top 32 clubs.”

With Inter Miami’s qualification, 31 out of the 32 slots for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup have been confirmed. The final team will be determined by the outcome of the 2024 CONMEBOL Libertadores final, scheduled for November 30, 2024, in Buenos Aires. Four South American giants are still in contention for the last spot, ensuring a dramatic conclusion to this year’s club football calendar.

Global Stage Awaits
The expanded FIFA Club World Cup, now featuring 32 teams, represents the most inclusive global club competition to date. It offers a unique opportunity for top clubs from Africa, Asia, Central and North America, and Oceania to compete against the powerhouses of Europe and South America. For Inter Miami, the 2025 edition will mark their debut in this prestigious tournament, putting both the club and Major League Soccer on the world stage.

As the countdown begins, excitement builds for what promises to be a monumental event, not only for Miami but for global football fans eager to witness the world’s elite clubs compete for the ultimate prize in club football.
