Adelaide United Overpowers Brisbane Roar in Unite Round Thriller
Brisbane Roar Falter as Adelaide United Seals Comeback Victory
Adelaide United’s relentless second-half performance earned them a 3-2 victory over Brisbane Roar in the Isuzu UTE A-League Unite Round clash at Allianz Stadium. Despite Brisbane leading 2-1 at halftime, Adelaide’s grit and clinical finishing saw them overturn the deficit, thanks to goals from Stefan Mauk, Zac Clough, and Archie Goodwin.
Roar’s Early Brilliance Overshadowed by Adelaide’s Resilience
Brisbane Roar scored in the 6th minute with a sensational strike from Keegan Jelacic, who found the bottom corner from range, marking his first goal of the 2024/25 season. The Roar reclaimed their lead before halftime with a composed penalty from Jay O’Shea after Thomas Waddingham was fouled inside the box.
O’Shea’s effort brought him level with Sergio Van Dijk on Brisbane’s all-time top scorers list with 25 league goals, a remarkable feat that underscores his consistency.
However, Adelaide United found their equalizer in the 33rd minute through Stefan Mauk, who punished Brisbane for a defensive lapse, slotting home after Austin Ayoubi won possession high up the pitch.
Adelaide’s Second-Half Surge Decides the Match
Adelaide came out firing in the second half, leveling the score just 35 seconds after the restart. Zac Clough capitalized on a Ben Folami cross, finding the net on his second attempt. The comeback was completed in the 62nd minute when Archie Goodwin tapped in Dylan Pierias’ cutback at the back post.
Despite Brisbane’s spirited response, including close attempts by Harry Van Der Saag and Florin Berenguer, the Roar couldn’t find an equalizer. Late substitute Jacob Brazete impressed on his debut, offering flashes of promise down the left wing but was unable to alter the outcome.
Roar’s Next Challenge
Brisbane Roar will aim to regroup as they face Macarthur FC at Campbelltown Stadium on Saturday, November 30.
