Defensive Setback for the Gunners Amid Title Push

Arsenal’s defensive woes have deepened as center-back Gabriel Magalhães is set to undergo surgery on a hamstring injury, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. The club confirmed the setback on Thursday, further complicating their Premier League and Champions League ambitions.

The 27-year-old Brazilian limped off in the 16th minute of Arsenal’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over Fulham on Tuesday, with Jakub Kiwior stepping in as his replacement. Manager Mikel Arteta had expressed immediate concerns post-match, admitting he was “worried” about Gabriel’s condition.

Arsenal’s Official Statement

In a statement released by the club, Arsenal confirmed Gabriel’s need for surgical intervention and outlined his expected recovery timeline:

“Gabi will undergo a surgical repair procedure to his hamstring in the coming days and immediately begin his recovery and rehabilitation program, with the aim to be ready for the start of next season. Everyone at the club will be fully focused on supporting Gabi to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”

Injury Crisis Mounts for Arteta

Gabriel’s absence adds to Arsenal’s growing injury list, which has already impacted their squad depth during a crucial stage of the campaign. The Gunners are also without forwards Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus for the rest of the season, while key players Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, Ben White, and Gabriel Martinelli have all missed significant spells due to injury.

With Arsenal still vying for the Premier League title against Liverpool and preparing for a high-stakes Champions League quarterfinal against Real Madrid on April 8, Gabriel’s injury comes at a critical juncture.

Upcoming Fixtures

Arsenal will look to regroup when they face Everton at Goodison Park this Saturday before hosting Real Madrid at the Emirates in one of their biggest European nights in recent history.
