Auckland, New Zealand – In a strategic move ahead of the 2025–26 season, A‑League Men club Auckland FC has secured U‑23 goalkeeper Scott Morris on a free transfer from Stoke City, the club’s latest addition to a rapidly growing roster.

Morris, 24, who has featured prominently in Stoke City’s youth setup and earned caps with New Zealand’s under‑23 side, arrives as a robust challenge to Auckland’s existing goalkeeping lineup, comprising Michael Woud and Joseph Knowles . The signing follows Alex Paulsen’s departure to AFC Bournemouth and ensures continued depth between the posts.

“I’m thrilled to be home and part of something special,” Morris said. “I’ve followed Auckland FC’s journey since I returned and can’t wait to contribute to what Steve Corica, Terry McFlynn and Jonathan Gould are building.”

Manager Steve Corica hailed the acquisition as a signal of intent: “We’re strengthening our squad with quality and ambition at every position. Scott brings hunger and international experience—just what we need as we push for more success.”

Last season, Auckland FC shot to prominence by clinching the premiership in its debut A‑League Men campaign under the leadership of Corica and director Terry McFlynnThe acquisition of a promising domestic goalkeeper aligns with the club’s blueprint to sustain momentum following a standout inaugural year.

Morris is expected to integrate into first-team training this week, as Auckland prepares to face Gold Coast Knights in the Australia Cup on July 29 at Go Media Stadium. The competition sets the stage for a series of crucial tests as the Black Knights aim to defend their status and progress deep into league and cup competitions.
