Perth Glory and Canberra United Share the Spoils in a 1-1 Stalemate

Perth Glory skipper Izzy Dalton marked her first goal of the season in dramatic fashion as her side battled to a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Canberra United in the Unite Round clash at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Sunday.

Dalton’s strike just before halftime put Glory ahead, but a second-half equalizer from Mary Stanic-Floody ensured the points were shared in an enthralling contest.

Dalton’s Opener and Glory’s Narrow Misses

The first half belonged to Perth Glory, with the visitors dominating possession and creating a string of chances. Sarah O’Donoghue was denied twice by the woodwork, while Canberra goalkeeper Sally James pulled off crucial saves to keep her team in contention.

Glory finally broke through in the 41st minute when Gabby Hollar capitalized on a defensive error and set up Dalton. The captain’s deflected effort soared past James, giving Glory a deserved lead.

Despite their dominance, Glory couldn’t extend their advantage, with O’Donoghue again rattling the frame of the goal before the halftime whistle.

 Stanic-Floody Levels for Canberra United

Canberra United emerged from the break with renewed energy, steadily growing into the match. Glory nearly doubled their lead early in the second half, but James once again proved to be an impenetrable barrier.

The tide turned in the 69th minute when Mary Stanic-Floody unleashed a spectacular 22-meter strike that left debutant Glory keeper Casey Dumont rooted to the spot. The equalizer breathed life into United, setting up a tense finale.

While both teams pushed for a winner, fatigue and the scorching conditions limited clear-cut chances. The match ended 1-1, reflecting the spirited efforts of both sides.
