Hayashi Shines as Brisbane Roar Crush Wanderers
Brisbane Roar’s Hayashi Dominates Unite Round Opener
An electric display from Momo Hayashi propelled Brisbane Roar to a commanding 4-0 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers in the Unite Round opener on Friday night. The Japanese midfielder netted twice in a standout first-half performance, setting the stage for Brisbane’s rise to the top of the Ninja A-League standings.
Matildas legend Tameka Yallop celebrated her record-breaking 153rd Brisbane appearance with a sensational second-half strike, while Emily Pringle capped off the dominant display with a composed late goal.
Hayashi’s Rise: From NPL Star to A-League Gamechanger
Having honed her skills over six seasons with NPL Queensland side Gold Coast United, Hayashi made the leap to Brisbane ahead of the 2024-25 season. The 29-year-old midfielder has quickly proven her mettle in the Ninja A-League, delivering a performance on Friday that underscored her seamless transition to the top tier.
Hayashi’s first goal came in the 14th minute via a deflected free-kick that caught Wanderers goalkeeper Sham Khamis off guard. She doubled her tally in first-half stoppage time, unleashing a low-driven shot from the edge of the box that nestled into the bottom-right corner.
Yallop’s Milestone Moment
Tameka Yallop, now Brisbane’s all-time appearance leader, marked her 153rd game with a signature strike from distance. After narrowly missing an earlier opportunity, the Matildas veteran unleashed a powerful, curling shot in the 72nd minute that left Khamis rooted to the spot.
“Moments like this define careers,” Brisbane head coach Garrath McPherson said post-match. “Tameka has been the heart and soul of this team, and what a way to celebrate her milestone.”
Brisbane’s Unstoppable Momentum
Emily Pringle rounded off Brisbane’s emphatic win in the closing stages. The midfielder showed flair and composure, nutmegging Wanderers defender Danika Matos before slotting the ball into the bottom corner.
Despite missing out on a hat-trick, Hayashi continued to influence proceedings, striking the crossbar with a powerful free-kick early in the second half.
The win extended Brisbane’s unbeaten streak and established them as early title contenders in the Ninja A-League.
