New Caledonia Sets the Stage for Semi-Finals with Stellar Group A Start

Last month, New Caledonia established itself as a top contender in Group A with a resounding 3-1 victory over Papua New Guinea, marking a promising start to their campaign in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Oceania Qualifiers. The win positioned them at the top of their group, setting the stage for a decisive round of matches in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, as they chase a spot in the semi-finals.

Head coach Johann Sidaner’s side displayed tenacity and skill, and they now aim to continue their streak by defeating the Solomon Islands—echoing their victory in last year’s Pacific Games. Captain Cesar Zeoula, a pivotal player in New Caledonia’s success, is optimistic about their chances, given the team’s rigorous preparation.

Zeoula Confident in Team’s Progress, Despite Challenges

“Our preparation has gone very well, even with the challenges back home, like the championship pause since May,” said Zeoula. “The squad has remained committed, especially those players who have joined us from France.”

Emphasizing the importance of their opening win, Zeoula expressed satisfaction with the momentum they’ve built. “Starting with a win in Fiji was crucial for our confidence. We have two big games coming up against the Solomon Islands and Fiji, and we’re committed to delivering a flawless performance by staying focused and working hard.”

Focused on Solomon Islands Showdown

Although one more victory from their next two games could secure New Caledonia’s advancement, Zeoula is ensuring the team maintains a disciplined approach. “Our main goal is the semi-finals, but we’re taking it step by step, starting with the match against Solomon Islands.”

The team’s final push includes their upcoming lineup for the qualifiers, featuring players from both local clubs and international teams across France and Israel.
