Noah Botic and Dylan Leonard Shine in A-League Spotlight
Botic and Leonard: A-League’s Rising Stars Poised for Greatness
Western United head coach John Aloisi has high hopes for Noah Botic and Dylan Leonard, two of the most promising young talents in Australian soccer. While he cautiously tempers expectations, Aloisi believes both players have the potential to significantly impact the national and international stages.
Noah Botic: A Natural Number Nine with a Bright Future
At 22, Noah Botic has already captured attention as one of the Isuzu UTE A-League’s most exciting prospects. Since joining Western United in 2021, following a stint with Germany’s Hoffenheim, Botic has scored 11 A-League goals and 12 across all competitions. Despite a navicular stress fracture that sidelined him last season, Botic’s return has been remarkable.
“He’s improving all the time,” Aloisi said ahead of Sunday’s derby against Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park. “He’s worked on his game, built his strength in the gym, and is becoming more powerful. It’s not just about his goals; his all-round game is impressive.”
Botic’s career has been marked by notable achievements, including leading Australia’s Subway Joeys to the Round of 16 at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup, where he scored four of the team’s five group-stage goals. Dubbed by some as the next Mark Viduka, Botic’s ceiling remains high.
“He’s a natural number nine, which we don’t have many of,” Aloisi added. “While I believe he will become a Socceroo, it’s important not to put too much pressure on him. He needs consistent game time to build his experience and unlock his full potential.”
Dylan Leonard: A Teenage Sensation Making History
Seventeen-year-old Dylan Leonard has already made an indelible mark on Western United. The youngest player to debut and score for the club in the Isuzu UTE A-League, Leonard’s journey has been rapid and eventful. Despite his recent suspension following a red card in a match against Perth Glory, Leonard’s composure and resilience have impressed Aloisi.
“What’s pleased me about Dylan is his maturity,” Aloisi noted. “He’s gone through challenges—a red card, scoring a goal, and even an own goal—but his approach remains steadfast. He’s willing to learn and never shies away from tough situations.”
Leonard’s ability to handle the pressures of professional soccer at such a young age has surprised even Aloisi. “He’s adapted quickly to playing against seasoned pros,” Aloisi said. “While there’s still a lot for him to learn, his calm demeanor and hunger to improve are remarkable.”
Australian Coaches Excel on the International Stage
John Aloisi also took time to commend his brother Ross Aloisi and Kevin Muscat for their achievements with Shanghai Port. The duo recently guided the Chinese Super League club to its first-ever league and cup double.
“I’m proud of them,” John Aloisi said. “Ross is an excellent coach, and it’s great to see Australian coaches proving themselves on the global stage. Their success highlights the quality of coaching in our league and elevates Australian soccer internationally.”
The Road Ahead for Botic and Leonard
As the A-League continues to showcase emerging talent, Noah Botic and Dylan Leonard stand out as future stars of Australian soccer. While Aloisi remains cautious about placing undue pressure on the young players, their performances speak volumes about their potential.
For now, Botic and Leonard are focused on helping Western United succeed this season. With the guidance of an experienced mentor like Aloisi, their development could significantly shape the future of Australian soccer.
