Sydney FC’s young forward, Patrick Wood, has extended his contract with the club for another year, keeping him in the Sky Blue jersey until the end of the 2025-26 Isuzu UTE A-League season. The deal includes an option for an additional year, offering Wood the chance to further establish himself at one of Australia’s most successful football clubs.

The 22-year-old striker, who emerged through Sydney FC’s youth Academy as part of its inaugural intake in 2015, has already made a significant impact. Despite limited appearances due to injury, Wood has been a key player for Sydney FC, notably finishing as the club’s top scorer during their successful Australia Cup campaign last season.

Having represented Australia’s U23 team on several occasions, Wood’s talent and determination have been on full display. Since making his first-team debut in 2020 during an AFC Champions League match against Shanghai SIPG, he has scored 15 goals in just 26 starts for the club, proving his potential as a future star.

After a six-month injury setback, Wood is eager to return to action and push for a regular spot in the starting XI. His confidence in his ability to contribute to the team’s success is clear, as he looks forward to playing alongside Sydney FC’s high-profile talents.

“I’m excited to be staying for two more years,” Wood said. “I have the belief and determination to earn a regular first-team position and contribute as many goals and assists as I can. I’ve got to repay the faith Uffy [Head Coach Ufuk Talay] has put in me with performances and goals. I’m ready to take my game to the next level, especially playing alongside players like Douglas Costa.”

Head coach Ufuk Talay shares Wood’s optimism, highlighting the forward’s work ethic and commitment to the club.

“Woody gives everything when he puts on the shirt. He plays with a lot of pride, and he’s the kind of player every club needs,” Talay said. “He’s got a huge amount of talent, and we’re excited to see him reach his full potential. His attitude is top-notch, and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Wood is set to be included in the extended squad for this weekend’s Sydney Derby against the Western Sydney Wanderers, marking his first appearance since his mid-season injury last year.

With his sights set on the future, Wood is ready to make a lasting impression on the Sydney FC faithful and play a pivotal role in the club’s ambitions in the seasons ahead.
