Oceania Football Pays Tribute to Alain Alick, Vanuatu Referee Development Officer

SUVA, Fiji (April 18, 2025) — The Oceania Football Confederation is mourning the death of Alain Alick, Referee Development Officer for the Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF), who passed away suddenly on April 10.
Alick, born in 1975, dedicated decades of service to Vanuatu football, both on the pitch as a match official and off it as a respected mentor to emerging referees. His passing marks the end of a distinguished era in the region’s officiating community.
“Alain was a cornerstone in the growth of refereeing in Vanuatu,” the OFC said in a statement. “His commitment, professionalism and passion for the game inspired not only those he mentored, but colleagues across the Pacific.”
A former referee for the Luganville Football Association, Alick gained widespread respect for his integrity, deep understanding of the game, and leadership in raising the standard of officiating in the country. In his later years, he transitioned into referee development, a role in which he identified and trained future officials who now serve throughout Oceania.
News of his passing has been met with heartfelt tributes from across the footballing community in Vanuatu and beyond.
“Our thoughts are with his family, his colleagues at the VFF, and the entire Vanuatu football community,” the OFC added.
Alick leaves behind a legacy of integrity, mentorship, and progress that will continue to shape Vanuatu football for generations.
