Wanderers’ Cleur Commits Future to Western Sydney After Career-Best Season

The club announced Wednesday that SYDNEY, Australia — Western Sydney Wanderers defender Gabriel Cleur has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the club through the 2025-26 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
The 27-year-old full-back enjoyed his most consistent campaign in 2024-25, starting all 22 of his appearances and scoring once during the Wanderers’ 12-match unbeaten run – their longest undefeated streak in 12 years. The run propelled Western Sydney to an Elimination Final berth.
Dual Role On and Off the Pitch
Cleur, who joined the Wanderers in 2022-23, balances his playing duties with work as a wellbeing officer and mental skills coach for Blacktown Spartans’ NPL 2 Boys team. His off-field contributions were recognized with the Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) Taliadoros Scholarship in 2024.
“It was a very easy decision to stay,” Cleur told club media. “This is where I grew up, where my family is settled. The club has become an important part of my life – the players, staff, everyone here. It was a no-brainer.”
Coach’s Praise for “Culture Carrier”
Wanderers head coach Alen Stajcic highlighted Cleur’s importance to the squad’s culture:
“Gab brings tremendous energy and professionalism. Having been here several seasons, he embodies our values and expectations. That experience makes him influential in the dressing room and dependable on the pitch. He leads by example in every training session and match.”
The defender’s extension continues Western Sydney’s policy of retaining core players after their most successful season in recent years.
