Adelaide United Shines at Mildura A-League Festival, Raising Funds for Local Hospital

Adelaide United had a memorable weekend at the One Agency Mildura A-League Festival of Sport, held during the October long weekend at the Mildura Sporting Precinct. The event saw over 2,600 fans turn out, making it a fantastic success both on and off the field, while also raising proceeds for the Mildura Base Public Hospital’s mobile skin cancer screening vehicle, set to launch in 2025.

The festivities began on Friday with a Junior Soccer Clinic that brought excitement to 160 local children. The kids had the unique opportunity to learn from Adelaide United stars James Delianov, Luke Duzel, Panashe Madanha, Archie Goodwin, Isobel Hodgson, Nanako Sasaki, and Meleri Mullan. The players actively participated in the clinic, helping local coaches and joining in the games. They also held a signing session afterward, leaving the young participants thrilled.

Later that evening, Adelaide United coaches Adrian Stenta and Carl Veart hosted an intimate presentation for local coaches, offering valuable insights into game preparation and tactical analysis. Reflecting on the team’s progress, head coach Adrian Stenta noted, “We’re seeing increased comfort with the new system we’re trying to implement this season. It’s different from last year, so it’s great to see the players adapting. Off the field, this was our first time having the entire squad together, which was fantastic for bonding and developing our team culture.”

Saturday saw Adelaide United’s A-League Men’s (ALM) team face Brisbane Roar in a thrilling contest. Despite falling behind early to an Acosta free kick, United’s captain Ryan Kitto secured a late equalizer with a header, earning his team a 1-1 draw. The match was filled with chances for Adelaide United in the first half, but the team was unable to convert those opportunities into goals.

Reflecting on the performance, head coach Carl Veart commented, “It was a really good hit-out for the boys against A-League opposition. I’m happy with the overall performance, but we need to be more clinical with the chances we create. If we had capitalized on our opportunities in the first half, it could have been a very different game.”

The festival concluded on a high note, with Adelaide United expressing their gratitude to Western United, Brisbane Roar, and the Mildura Base Public Hospital for helping make the event a success. The club looks forward to returning to Mildura in 2025 for another exciting installment of the festival.
