Adelaide United seized a thrilling 4-3 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers in an intense A-League battle at CommBank Stadium on Saturday night. The Reds repeatedly pulled two goals ahead, only for the resilient Wanderers to claw back each time, making for a dramatic match. Former Wanderer Dylan Pierias delivered a standout performance, netting twice against his former side and sealing Adelaide’s spot in fourth place on the table.

A Night of Non-Stop Action: First-Half Fireworks Set the Tone

The game kicked off with a bang as both teams came out firing. Adelaide’s teenage sensation, Luka Jovanovic, opened the scoring early, marking his second goal in two games this season. Shortly after, Austin Ayoubi capitalized on a goalkeeping error by Wanderers’ Tristan Vidackovic, doubling Adelaide’s lead in the 21st minute. However, Western Sydney responded quickly, with Nicolas Milanovic scoring six minutes later to cut Adelaide’s lead to 2-1.

Just when it seemed like the Wanderers might close the gap further, Pierias launched a sensational strike from outside the box, restoring Adelaide’s two-goal cushion. Network 10’s Simon Hill captured the mood perfectly, declaring, “It’s raining goals in Paramatta in this first half!” as Adelaide ended the half 3-1 up.

The second half saw no let-up in intensity, with Bozhidar Kraev converting a setup from substitute Zac Sapsford to make it 3-2 in the 53rd minute. But Pierias was quick to dash the Wanderers’ hopes of a comeback, scoring his second goal of the night with a cool finish following a perfect through ball from teammate Zach Clough.

Adelaide’s advantage grew to 4-2, and Pierias, with three goals last season for Western Sydney, now has two goals for Adelaide just a couple of games into the season.

Late Drama as Borrello Pulls One Back, But Adelaide Holds On

The Wanderers weren’t finished yet. With 15 minutes left, Brandon Borrello headed in a third goal for Western Sydney after a chaotic sequence that saw the ball ricochet off the crossbar. The home side kept pressing for an equalizer, but Adelaide’s defense held firm, securing a hard-fought 4-3 victory.

This pulsating encounter leaves the Wanderers winless after three rounds, now sitting 11th in the standings, while Adelaide climbs to fourth, continuing their strong start to the season.
