Garuccio appointed captain as Western United eyes the future at Ironbark Fields.

Western United has named Ben Garuccio as the club’s third-ever Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s captain, a significant milestone for both the player and the team in what is shaping up to be the biggest season in the club’s history. Garuccio, a respected figure on and off the field, will lead Western United as they return to their new home, Ironbark Fields, solidifying his role in the Western community.

Garuccio, no stranger to leadership, previously wore the captain’s armband last season in Tarneit, earning widespread admiration throughout the club. His permanent captaincy reflects his standing as a leader both on the pitch and within the Western United community. “It’s a huge honour to be appointed as captain,” Garuccio said. “It’s an amazing opportunity to develop my leadership further, and I’m eager to take my game to the next level while helping the team achieve success.”

Joining Garuccio in the leadership team is Japanese defender Tomoki Imai, who will continue as vice-captain for a second consecutive season. Imai is a cornerstone of Western United, holding the record for the most appearances in the club’s history, having played 108 matches in Green and Black. His influence and determination make him a key figure as the club embarks on this new chapter.

Western United’s General Manager of Football, Mal Impiombato, praised the leadership duo as ideal representatives of the club’s ethos and future ambitions. “Ben has been a model professional since joining in 2021, constantly driving the team forward both with his performances and his leadership. Tomoki’s passion and positivity are integral to our club’s DNA, and together, they embody the values we hold dear at Western United.”

As Western United embarks on its long-awaited homecoming season at Ironbark Fields, the club’s leaders, Garuccio and Imai, will look to rally the Green and Black faithful, driving the team towards success while cementing their place in the Western community.

Fans can expect an exciting brand of attacking football this season, with the team aiming to fill Ironbark Fields with passionate supporters as they continue to build towards the future.
