Newcastle, Australia – Brisbane Roar showcased their attacking prowess with a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Newcastle Jets in Round 7 of the Ninja A-League Women’s competition on Saturday evening at No. 2 Sportsground.

Early Drama Sets the Stage

The match kicked off with an explosive start, as 17-year-old Grace Kuilamu opened the scoring in just the second minute. A perfectly timed ball over the top allowed Kuilamu to break through Newcastle’s defense and rifle her shot into the top corner, putting Brisbane ahead.

Newcastle tried to respond but struggled to convert their possession into clear chances. In the 24th minute, Sheridan Gallagher’s audacious back-heel flick narrowly missed the target, and India Breier’s free kick sailed just over the crossbar.

Davis Strikes Back Before Roar Regain Control

Cass Davis equalized for Newcastle in the 32nd minute after an impressive interception and link-up play involving Breier and Gallagher. However, Brisbane swiftly restored their lead when Tamar Levin headed home from a well-delivered corner by Laini Freier.

Just before halftime, Laini Freier made her mark with her first goal for Brisbane, capitalizing on a low-driven cross from her sister, Sharn Freier, to send the visitors into the break with a commanding 3-1 lead.

Second-Half Brilliance

Brisbane picked up where they left off, as Momo Hayashi stunned the crowd with a spectacular long-range free kick in the 48th minute, extending the lead to 4-1. Newcastle made substitutions in an attempt to shift momentum, bringing on Josie Allan, Lauren Allan, and Alexis Collins, but Brisbane’s defense remained impenetrable.

The Freier sisters continued their dominance, with Laini completing her hat trick. A precise cross from Sharn set up Laini for her second goal, while a similar play in the 72nd minute allowed her to nestle the ball into the top corner, sealing a resounding 6-1 victory.
