Central Coast Mariners defender Jessika Nash returned to the A-League fresh off two impressive appearances for the Matildas, showcasing her rising star status in Australian soccer.

At just 19, Nash has become a central figure in Emily Husband’s unbeaten Mariners squad, proving her worth both domestically and internationally. After a standout performance on the world stage, Nash is ready to bring her experience back to the Ninja A-League as the Mariners prepare to face Brisbane Roar this weekend.

Rising Through the Ranks: Nash’s Matildas Journey

Nash’s talent was on full display during her international duty last week. Introduced late in the Matildas’ 3-1 victory over Chinese Taipei, she made her return to the national team after debuting as a 17-year-old. In the second match, Nash replaced retiring legend Clare Polkinghorne, contributing a solid 30-minute shift in a commanding 6-0 win.

Reflecting on the experience, Nash shared her thoughts on donning the green and gold once again:

“It’s always an honour to represent your national team, but stepping into the senior women’s national team is something special. I know that’s where I’ll do a lot of learning.”

Her determination to grow as a player continues to fuel her ambitions.

“Hopefully, I can bring what I’ve learned back to the A-League and show why I belong in the Matildas team.”

Back to Business: Focus on the A-League

This weekend, Nash and the Mariners face a new challenge, traveling to Brisbane to take on the Roar. Despite their opponents’ possession-based approach, Nash is confident in the Mariners’ ability to rise to the occasion:

“They look like a great team, but when we put our best performance in, we can beat anyone. Reflecting on our game against Canberra United, we’ve identified areas to improve and are ready to show our quality.”

Nash credited her teammates and coach Emily Husband for fostering a supportive environment that has propelled her growth:

“Working under Em and with these girls has been like a second family. It’s been an incredible season so far, and I hope we just keep building.”

A Bond Built on Defense

Nash also highlighted her partnership with fellow defender Ash Irwin as pivotal to the team’s success. Their synergy at the back has played a crucial role in keeping the Mariners unbeaten this season.
