Macarthur FC Destroys Perth Glory with Record 6-1 Victory in Isuzu UTE A-League Opener

In a commanding display of football, Macarthur FC soared to the top of the Isuzu UTE A-League table, demolishing Perth Glory 6-1 in their opening match at Campbelltown Sports Stadium. The Bulls recorded their largest win in club history, setting a blistering pace with five goals in a sensational first half.

Bulls Blitz Glory with Five First-Half Goals

Macarthur’s relentless attack saw them hit the back of the net four times within the first 30 minutes. Jed Drew opened the floodgates, followed by goals from Jake Hollman, Tomislav Uskok, and Marin Jakolis, all capitalizing on a disorganized Perth defense. With the scoreline at 4-0, Jakolis secured his second just before half-time, equaling the largest half-time margin in A-League history.

“This has been an extraordinary 45 minutes for the Bulls, and an absolute nightmare for Perth Glory,” commented Simon Hill, Paramount+’s lead commentator, as the half drew to a close.

Perth Glory’s struggles continued, with new coach David Zdrilic overseeing a side that appeared fragile and disjointed. Star forward Adam Taggart’s attempts to get on the scoresheet were thwarted by offside calls, further compounding the visitors’ frustrations.

Macarthur’s Dominance Continues in the Second Half

The Bulls didn’t let up after the break. Team captain Valère Germain added a sixth goal to further humiliate Glory, before Perth’s Adam Bugarija managed a consolation goal in the closing stages. However, the damage was done, and the 6-1 scoreline remained, with Macarthur proudly sitting at the top of the league standings.

For Perth Glory, this defeat continued a worrying trend. Despite off-season optimism under Zdrilic and 14 new signings, Glory’s defense remains their Achilles heel, having now conceded 29 goals in their last five A-League matches. It’s a rough start to a new season that looks eerily similar to last year’s struggles, where they finished at the bottom of the table.

Jake Hollman Shines Bright for the Bulls

At the heart of Macarthur’s impressive performance was 23-year-old midfielder Jake Hollman, who was instrumental in the Bulls’ triumph. Not only did Hollman score the second goal, but he also provided three assists in a dazzling first-half display.

Commentator Simon Hill praised the young talent, describing Hollman as “a player with immense promise” and a standout performer in a team filled with stars.

This commanding victory is a continuation of Macarthur’s pre-season form, which saw them claim their second Australia Cup title in just three years. The Bulls are now setting their sights on a strong A-League campaign, with Sunday’s match serving as a statement of intent to the rest of the league.
