Wellington Phoenix General Manager David Dome is rallying the city to turn out in full force as the club gears up to host Auckland FC at Sky Stadium in New Zealand’s first-ever professional football derby this Saturday.

A Historic Derby for Wellington

With November 2 circled on the calendar since the schedule was released, Dome underscores the magnitude of this clash for the Phoenix.

“It’s one of the biggest matches in our history,” Dome said. “Our semi-final at Sky Stadium last season was unforgettable, and this promises to be just as memorable. We’re thrilled to welcome Auckland FC to Aotearoa’s home of football for the first time.”

Dome is calling for all of Wellington to “paint the city yellow,” sending a bold message to the A-League newcomers as they enter Phoenix territory.

Rallying the Fans: “Yellow Is the Only Colour They Should See”

In a rousing message to Wellingtonians, Dome encourages everyone to dress in yellow and demonstrate their backing for the Phoenix.

“Yellow is the only color Auckland 3.0 should see when they arrive on Friday,” he urged. “Whether or not you own a Phoenix jersey, wear yellow to show your support on Saturday night. Our city’s backing has never been more important.”

Dome’s comments reflect the club’s passion for maintaining its place as New Zealand’s original A-League team, representing not only Wellington but all New Zealand football fans.

Standing Firm Against Rivals

Referencing Auckland FC’s financial backing, Dome was clear about the Phoenix’s legacy in New Zealand’s football community.

“Our neighbors, with their billionaire American owner, think they can buy their way to an A-League title. But it takes more than money to build success,” Dome said. “We’ve proudly represented Te-Whanganui-a-Tara and football fans across Aotearoa for 17 years, and we’re here to stay.”

Fans to Create “Unrivaled Atmosphere” at Sky Stadium

Wellington Phoenix players will be out in the city on Thursday, raising club flags and handing out match tickets to fans decked out in Phoenix colors, setting the stage for a thrilling atmosphere on Saturday. The team will also unveil a new trophy to celebrate the first-ever derby showdown.

“I can’t wait for the derby, and I look forward to seeing everyone in yellow,” Dome concluded.
