Women’s Reserves Struggle with Short Squad Against West Coast Rangers

The Phoenix women’s reserves traveled to Auckland missing key players due to first-team and international commitments. Despite the challenges, they initially took control in the match against West Coast Rangers, as Isla Cleall-Harding seized a poorly placed pass from the opposing goalkeeper in the 28th minute, capitalizing on the error with a precise tap into an open net.

However, their early lead was overturned as Rangers answered back with two goals—one just before the halftime break and another shortly after—to secure a 2-1 victory, leaving the Phoenix still seeking their first points of the season.

Men’s Reserves Show Resilience in Goal-Packed Loss to Birkenhead United

Meanwhile, the men’s reserves encountered a goal-laden encounter against Birkenhead United, also on Auckland soil. They conceded early but responded with a stunning equalizer three minutes after halftime. Lachlan Candy’s solo effort began from deep within his own half, charging past three defenders to unleash a powerful strike from the edge of Birkenhead’s box, leveling the score and igniting Phoenix hopes.
