PARIS (AP) — What should have been a night of historic celebration turned tragic as Paris Saint-Germain’s first Champions League victory descended into chaos, leaving two dead and 192 injured across France.

The Interior Ministry confirmed Sunday that a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed during a street party in Dax, while a Parisian man died when a car struck his scooter during the celebrations. Authorities are investigating both incidents.

Escalating Violence

The aftermath of PSG’s 3-1 victory over Inter Milan saw:

  • 559 total arrests nationwide (491 in Paris)

  • 320 placed in police custody

  • 200+ vehicles torched

  • 29 security personnel injured

Champs-Élysées Chaos

The iconic boulevard became ground zero for destruction:

  • Riot police deployed tear gas and water cannons

  • Protesters shattered bus shelters and hurled projectiles

  • Fireworks launched at security forces

  • Luxury boutiques boarded up preemptively

“This should have been our proudest night,” PSG supporter Pierre Lefèvre told AP. “Instead, we’re talking about deaths and destruction.”

Official Response

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin condemned the “unacceptable violence” while praising security forces who worked through the night. Club officials released a statement expressing condolences to victims’ families while urging “responsible celebration.”

The incidents raise fresh security concerns ahead of Paris hosting the 2024 Olympics.
