Veteran center back secures a future with the club after a season of growth

St. Louis CITY SC has solidified their defense for the foreseeable future, announcing the contract extension of center back Josh Yaro through 2025, with an option to extend through 2026. The 29-year-old defender has played an integral role for the club this season, netting one goal across 13 appearances.

“Josh has been a positive influence on the organization since he arrived, and we are happy to sign him to a new contract,” said sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel. “We are confident he will continue to be that positive influence, both on and off the field.”

Yaro’s journey in Major League Soccer (MLS) began when he was selected second overall in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by the Philadelphia Union. Since then, he has made 52 MLS appearances, developing into a seasoned professional. In addition to his time with the Union, Yaro has also competed for USL Championship sides San Antonio FC and San Diego Loyal, as well as for MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, St Louis CITY2.

While St. Louis CITY SC will miss the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs after finishing 12th in the Western Conference with 37 points (8W-12L-13D), Yaro’s extension represents a building block for the club’s future. His experience and leadership both on and off the pitch will continue to benefit the team’s growth in the seasons ahead.
