Hamill’s Season Ends in Heartbreak After Devastating ACL Injury

MELBOURNE – Melbourne Victory has confirmed that central defender Brendan Hamill suffered a serious knee injury during the club’s A-League Semi-Final defeat to Auckland FC at AAMI Park on Saturday night.

Medical scans revealed a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)—an injury that will sideline the 31-year-old for an extended period.

Hamill is scheduled to undergo reconstructive surgery in the coming days, with the club pledging full support throughout his rehabilitation as preparations begin for the 2025–26 campaign.

The experienced defender, who has been a key figure in Tony Popovic’s backline, now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, delivering a major blow to Victory’s defensive plans ahead of next season.

The setback comes after a turbulent and physically demanding campaign, and Hamill’s leadership will be sorely missed both on and off the pitch.

Victory fans and the wider football community have already rallied around the veteran, wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
