Premier League Prize Payouts: Liverpool Lead £2.4B Distribution After Dramatic Season

LONDON (AP) — Premier League clubs shared a record £2.4 billion in prize money for the 2024/25 season, with champions Liverpool leading the financial gains at £181.5 million according to official estimates released Tuesday.

The figures from The Athletic reveal the staggering economics of England’s top flight, where even relegated Southampton banked £110.9 million – more than most European leagues’ champions earn.

Title Winners Rewarded
Liverpool’s surprise title triumph under new manager Arne Slot proved particularly lucrative. The £181.5 million payout – £42 million more than Manchester United’s £139.5 million – already appears earmarked for summer transfers, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz among reported targets.

“The financial gap between first and sixth is now wider than ever,” noted football finance expert Kieran Maguire. “That Liverpool earned £52 million more than Tottenham shows how costly underperformance becomes.”

Relegation Reality
Southampton’s record-early relegation still came with a nine-figure consolation prize. Their £110.9 million exceeds:
• Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga prize money (£90M)
• PSG’s Ligue 1 earnings (£85M)
• Juventus’ Serie A payout (£75M)

  2. £52M gap: Liverpool earned 47% more than Spurs
