A cornerstone of the greater Wellington region’s development is now laying foundations for football success. Holmes Construction, a third-generation family business with roots tracing back to 1957 in Wairarapa, has signed on as the major sponsor of the Wellington Phoenix Academy—marking the start of an ambitious chapter for the club’s reserve teams.

The partnership will see Holmes Construction take pride of place as front-of-shirt sponsor for both the men’s and women’s reserve squads during the 2025 winter season and into the National League Championship later in the year.

A Shared Commitment to Community and Growth

Ben Holmes, Managing Director of Holmes Construction, says the collaboration is about more than just sponsorship—it’s about investing in future generations.

“As a family-owned business with a proud history in the region, we value the development of local talent and the strong community spirit these teams embody,” Holmes said.
“We look forward to cheering the Wellington Phoenix academy on throughout the season and wish them every success.”

With offices in Greytown, Petone, and Christchurch, Holmes Construction has spent nearly seven decades building not only infrastructure but also lasting relationships across communities. Their involvement with the Phoenix is a natural extension of that ethos.

A Home Grown Future for Phoenix Reserves

The Phoenix reserve sides, who now call Fraser Park their home base, will benefit from the new partnership as the club continues to grow its presence in the Hutt Valley. With the Ricoh Sports Centre now under Phoenix management, the partnership arrives at an opportune moment in the academy’s expansion.

Wellington Phoenix general manager David Dome praised the synergy between the two organisations.

“Ben Holmes and his team at Holmes Construction are leaders in their field and are passionately local,” said Dome.
“We’ve seen their excellence firsthand as tenants at the New Zealand Campus of Innovation and Sport since 2022.
Together we’re looking forward to taking the academy to a new level and making it a major events hub in the Hutt Valley.”

Holmes Construction: A Pillar of Wellington’s Development

Founded in Greytown nearly 70 years ago, Holmes Construction has evolved into one of the region’s premier construction firms. From bespoke residential builds to large-scale commercial and industrial projects, the company has built a legacy of quality, integrity, and innovation.

This sponsorship marks a further extension of that legacy—this time, through sport. With the Phoenix Academy known for nurturing promising talent, the partnership ensures local footballers will have more support, better resources, and a stronger platform to shine.
