AUCKLAND, New Zealand (PS) – Auckland FC striker Guillermo May has been named the club’s inaugural Most Valuable Player following a breakout season in the Isuzu UTE A-League Men competition.

The 27-year-old Uruguayan was honored at the club’s end-of-season awards night, Knight of Celebration, where he also picked up the Golden Boot after leading the team with nine goals in their debut campaign.

May’s clinical finishing played a key role in Auckland FC securing the A-League’s Premier’s Plate, capping off a historic season for the expansion side.

Goalkeeper Alex Paulsen, 22, earned the Players’ Player of the Season, an accolade voted on by teammates. The shot-stopper edged out fellow nominees Felipe Gallegos and Francis de Vries with match-winning performances between the posts.

Francis de Vries, 30, who patrolled the left flank consistently all season, was named the Members’ Player of the Season, beating out club fan-favorites Hiroki Sakai and MVP winner May.

Colombian forward Neyder Moreno was awarded Goal of the Season for his stunning solo effort against the Newcastle Jets in November, a highlight-reel moment that ignited the Go Media Stadium crowd.

Meanwhile, Logan Rogerson received a special commendation after netting a hat-trick against local rivals Wellington Phoenix. He was presented with the match ball, signed by his teammates, to mark the milestone.
