Kyah Simon Eyes 2024 Return Amid Injury Setback
Sydney FC’s Kyah Simon Provides Update on Injury Recovery
Sydney FC and CommBank Matildas veteran Kyah Simon remains focused on her recovery as she aims to make her long-awaited return from injury. The 33-year-old, who rejoined Sydney FC this season after a seven-year absence, has been sidelined due to a lingering calf injury and is yet to step onto the pitch in the current Ninja A-League campaign.
The Australian international, with an impressive 111 caps, has been supporting her team from the sidelines, including during Saturday’s closely contested 1-0 Sydney Derby victory over Western Sydney Wanderers. Simon, who also missed earlier matches against Central Coast Mariners and Brisbane Roar, provided fans with an update on her fitness during the halftime broadcast on Network 10.
“Week-by-Week”: Simon Stays Cautiously Optimistic
Speaking candidly, Simon shared her frustration with the setbacks in her rehabilitation but emphasized a patient approach.
“I’m doing alright, in a rehab for my calf at the moment,” Simon revealed. “It’s been a little frustrating lately with a bit of a setback. It’s hard to put a timeframe on it. Every time I’ve done that in the past, it’s added stress and pressure, which rehab already comes with.”
Simon also reaffirmed her commitment to returning as soon as possible, adding, “I’m working hard week in, week out. I just want to be back on the park, helping the girls, and contributing to the team.”
End-of-Year Return in Sight
When asked about a potential timeline, Simon expressed hope for a return before the end of 2024. “Yes, that’s the aim,” she stated confidently.
Her anticipated comeback would not only bolster Sydney FC’s squad but also serve as an inspirational moment for fans eager to see one of Australian soccer’s most celebrated players back in action.
